Adrian K. Tam was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. The son of immigrant parents from Hong Kong and Taiwan, Adrian grew up in Liliha in low income housing and learned early the value of hard work, service, and opportunity.

Adrian attended MaeMae Elementary, Hongwanji Mission School, and Kalani High School  before earning his degree in History from Penn State University. He worked multiple jobs to help pay for college, then returned home to Hawaiʻi and earned his real estate license while working with his family’s local small business.

Adrian began his career at the Hawaiʻi State Legislature working for Speaker Emeritus Calvin Say and later Senator Stanley Chang. During that time, he worked on legislation related to housing, public health, education, homelessness, public safety, the State Youth Commission, Section 8 insurance programs and protections against conversion therapy for minors.

Since being elected to the Hawaiʻi State House in 2020, Adrian has served in leadership roles on committees focused on health, human services, homelessness, culture, arts, international affairs, and finance. He has chaired the House Committee on Culture, Arts, and International Affairs and currently chairs the House Committee on Tourism. He has secured more than $80 million in Capital Improvement Project funding and advanced work on tax transparency, homeless minors, land use, illegal robocalls, noise pollution, public safety and LGBTQ+ equality.

Adrian believes that a true leader lifts someone up rather than puts them down. He has dedicated his time to the people of House District 24 by attending townhalls, working directly with members of the neighborhood boards, and supporting the Waikiki Community Center. Adrian is most passionate about making his neighbor's lives easier, and his neighbors know they can always count on him. Adrian is currently a member of the Kalani High School Endowment Fund and previously served as interim Chair of the Democratic Party of Hawaii.

Adrian believes government should be accessible, practical, and focused on results. His work is rooted in the experiences of working families, immigrant communities, small businesses and residents who deserve a fair shot at building a future in Hawaiʻi. Adrian always reminds folks that a true leader lifts someone up rather than puts them down because that is who he is.
